Invitation to NAFCON General Assembly October 21-23
Mainit na pagbati mga kababayan sa US! (Warm Greetings to All Our Fellow Filipinos in the US!)
The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) will gather once again to reaffirm our commitment in protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino im/migrants in the United States. “Pag-ibayuhin ang Pagkakaisa ng Kilusan ng Migranteng Pilipino sa U.S. Para Ipagtanggol ang Ating Karapatan at Kagalingan at Itayo ang Maaliwalas na Kinabukasan ng Ating Inang Bayan” (Further Deepen the Unity of the US Filipino Im/migrant Movement To Defend our Rights and Welfare and Build a Brighter Future for our Homeland) will be the theme of our General Assembly, which will be held in the Northeast region (NY/NJ) from October 21-23, 2011.
In this event, we will elect a new set of National Officers, ratify our Constitution and By-laws, approve our General Program of Action (GPOA), share our sectoral and regional reports, and celebrate our unity through cultural presentations. Please find attached the GA 2011 Program.
As Filipino advocates for rights and welfare, we also stand in solidarity with other immigrant communities. Being one of the founding members, we are honored to invite you to the launching of the International Migrants Alliance (IMA-USA) after our General Assembly from 1:00-9:00 PM of October 23, 2011.
Since our founding in 2003, NAFCON has taken on numerous campaigns such as the Justice for the Sentosa Nurses 27++, Bayanihan Relief Project for Victims of Typhoon Ondoy, No to Racist Slur Against Filipinos, etc. We formed the National Ecumenical Forum for Filipino Concerns (NEFFCON, 2007), the National Alliance of Fil-Am Youth (SanDiwa, 2008), and the organizing group of the household workers and lawyers (2009). We were one the convenors of the International Assembly of Migrants and Refugees (IAMR3) in Mexico City last November 2010. All these gains and victories were not achieved if not for the collective unities and efforts of everyone.
We look forward to your attendance and active participation. For more information, please e-mail the GA 2011 Secretariat (nafconga2011.sect@gmail.com) or contact your regional and sectoral coordinators.
Mabuhay ang Sambayanang Pilipino!
Maraming salamat po.
