NAFCON Solidarity Statement to International League of Peoples’ Struggle on their Founding of ILPS-USA

Warm greetings to ILPS-USA!

Congratulations on the founding assembly of ILPS-USA! We of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) look forward with great enthusiasm in Building a Brighter Future for all people of color in the US!

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) has been at the forefront in the movement against anti-people military and economic aggression by the world powers on developing nations. The role of ILPS-USA has a special and particular role in the US. The majority of immigrants in the US are here because of the damaging effects of anti-people policies in their home countries.

In a time where we are seeing attacks on immigrants intensifying in the U.S., budgets cuts in education and youth services coupled with exponential increases in university tuition fees, the ongoing violence against women in all forms, and increasing military aggression in the Philippines and all other countries that the US has economic and military interests, the need for forging multi-sectoral alliances in advancing and defending our rights and welfare in the midst of U.S. aggression, both in our countries of origin and in the domestic front, come with great urgency.

As an alliance that seeks to advance and defend the rights and welfare of Filipinos in the U.S. and the diaspora, NAFCON has a particular connection to ILPS in regards to the migrant struggle. The International Migrants Alliance (IMA) and Migrante International, both of which NAFCON is a member of, are also member organizations of ILPS.

NAFCON supports the work of ILPS in bringing to the forefront the damaging effects of anti-people economic policies and wars of aggression that forces people to migrate out of their homeland just to survive. NAFCON has participated with ILPS in the 3rd International Assembly of Migrants and Refugees (IAMR) in Mexico City in 2010, and has been an observer in the ILPS International Assemblies in Hong Kong in 2008 and Manila in 2011.

NAFCON congratulates you in celebrating your many victories and is planning for the coming years of continuing the struggle. NAFCON will unite with you on the streets of Chicago as we gather on May 20, 2012, in making our voices heard to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as its members gather in Chicago for their summit.

NAFCON in unity with ILPS-USA will demand an end to military and economic aggression in our home countries. Let us continue on in the struggle to advance and defend the rights and welfare of all people of color in the US.

Long Live the International League of Peoples’ Struggle!
Long Live International Solidarity!
